Issue #2 of Giant Killers. Been Thinkin About “disorGanAzation.”
My wife is a very organized person. When I was studying Counseling in Seminary one of the four personality types was called a “beaver.” (The others are, otter, lion, and golden retriever. If I you ever had premarital counseling with me and almost any kind of marriage counseling with me, you took that test to find out who you were and who you were marrying/married.) Beavers are organizers. Miss Jean’s pantry is organized. The towels in my house have to be folded in a particular way AND stacked neatly in line horizontally. It gives a whole new meaning to the request, “will you get me a towel?” On the other hand, I’m not. I’m a lion who is bitten by a beaver, just sayin.
I think that the way you beat the giant in your life is, first of all, recognize whether your problem is just a problem or a “giant” problem. In doing your detective work you could defeat your giant quickly. I told you on our last time together how the giant is always a distraction. Today let’s talk more about how we can know we are messing with a giant. Because it causes our life a lot of disorganization . Let me spent about 200 more words on this matter and then we are through for now.
In the David verses Goliath story Isreal wasn’t able to fight on their terms because the giant was calling the shots. 1 Samuel 17:8-9 every morning he went out and told them the rules of winning. Do you have something in your life calling the shots? Do you have a habit that is quickly becoming an addiction hollering at you? Are you constantly arranging your life to accommodate the wishes and terms of this giant? That’s disorganization! You’re just accommodating!
i. Here is the Key to this, so bend low and listen. To Gain In the Battle You Need To Fight On Your Terms.
For many of us it means changing our perspective on the problem. I remember a horrible situation where the worst that could happen did happen. I had a moment and came to a new conclusion, ‘what Good can come from this that can help others who are still struggling with this kind of hurt?’ That was a different perspective. That has helped many people who deal with that kind of horrible situation.
ii. For many of you who have never defeated a giant before it is because you have never fought before. $ The giant Money problems happen usually because you never fight the battle of budgeting. The giant of marriage restoration isn’t defeated because you never go into the battle of paying the price, of doing the work, the commitment, the effort. I could talk of other battles, but I pray you get where I’m going with this. I love what Stuart Briscoe wrote, “every battle is a God-given opportunity for victory.”
I have a heart to help, and I will take these next few weeks talking to you about how to be Giant Killers. So, for those who are up for it “let’s go!” For those who have no giants then come with us and listen to the stories of a commoner with an uncommon sense tell a few stories that are really about all of us.
See you in the morning, I’ve got to go to PT and stone a giant with My People.
