About Pallet Person People

Y’all remember the old story of Jesus and the 5 guys who busted up the church service by taking the roof off the building? Yes, I know there were 4 guys but they were carrying a “pallet person.” I like John Maxwells take on the question, “What kind of people would knock a hole in the roof?” In his book “Think On These Things” he gives us a wonderful answer that has me thinkin. He “suggested the characteristics of these kind of people are;

1. Concerned For Others. The beauty of genuine concern is its willingness to become involved without regard for cost.

2. The Spirit of Cooperation. It took all 4 of them to hold up their end of the bed. Not one decided to do their own thing.

3. A Firm Belief That the Only Answer Is Jesus. This gave them boldness and determination.

4. Having Their Priorities Straight. They knew exactly what to do to help their friend.”

We can all deeply appreciate “Pallet Person People” in our life, can’t we? Even in the secular world we live in.

I am reminded of such a group of folks at the Elite Rehab where this "pallet person" does physical therapy 4 days a week. It is the best thing for my Parkinson's and team of "Pallet Person People" at the Rehab is like family to me, a weird family, but a family nonetheless.I am there so often that we are like a weird family.

The very person you will meet first is Kim. Most days Kim is "on it," she greets you with a smile and a “Howdy Mr. Mike.” When she is not all over it, Kim still greets me but a lot less volume. Kim is a thinker too and often I wonder what’s going on but I respect her thoughts.

Then there is the PT Zoo Crew. There is Ginger, a workaholic who LOVES people. She talks to all…all the time. Ginger is the lady you need if you are having a bad day because her big voice (for such a tiny lady) will encourage you. I love to pick on all of them but in particular this loud lady.

The one who is in charge of messing me up is Kayla. When I see Kayla she always has this sly smile on her face because she test my memory with senseless words and numbers at the beginning of my hour and wants me to repeat them after the hour is up. This was todays sentence, “Once upon a time a church stumbled on to a mysterious and marvelous treasure map while wandering in Paris.” Needless to say, I wiped that smile off her face.

Then Callie (like California) this young lady is a sight. She has a streak of sweetness, but it is lean. You can get nothing on this kid. Don’t even try to match witty remarks with her cause you will wind up poochy lipped. I always want Calli on my side…Always.

Last is Kade who is everybody’s favorite. Kade just makes you smile. I have got to know this young man as much as a weird family can know someone and there is nothing not to love about this hard-working guy. He will leave soon to finish his degree in PT and I predict he will do wonderful with "pallet people."

Let me quickly wrap this up. If we look around, we can find “Pallet People” and show concern and love to them. They are everywhere. Now, I don’t mean whiners or battery drainers. I’m talking about folks who need a word of encouragement, sly smile, a streak of sweetness, a fav, a weird family, to help us. I got my People!

But we also can be the one who reaches out to help. We all can help. I try to encourage these precious "Pallet Person People," by making them laugh, pray for them, and with them, and occasionally bring them a Jacks Biscuit. I do love these “Pallet Person People."
