Been thinkin About Miss Jean;

When I think of Jean, there just ain’t enough words or space. This is her celebration of another lap around the sun. That date up at the top is her day. But as I try to talk “shop” to you about Miss Jean, well let me say that it has never been “shop talk”.

I met Miss Jean in high school and married her in high school. I asked her to marry me several times but by the concession stand outside the gym at Saks High School she said yes and gave me that smile.

Miss Jean’s smile comes hard but when it comes it changes the universe. We married in the Senior year of High School and so I have been the husband of Miss Jean AND that Universe Changing Smile for 56 trips around the sun

The first thing I need to tell you about Miss Jean is that I changed her name to John. If you know us well you know the story. BTW when her named changed so did mine…to the same name! I won’t tell the story now but just to say, for me to call her Jean is just not good.

Something else about this girl you may not know. She NEVER ask for anything. I ask for everything and I am a giver. So this odd little fact drives me crazy. Even the the kids say that! She says she has everything she ever wanted right now. She also knows, deep in that fox like brain I would get her the moon if she’d just ask. She doesn’t! AHHHH!!!

I do have a history of guessing what would bring that smile to Miss Jean’s face and some of it ain’t good. But a few times I hit the home run. I am not telling you what I got Miss Jean for her celebration…yet. She is still sleeping and I’m not sure she will read this.

You see the thing about never asking is it puts the one giving the gift on edge if the one receiving the gift didn’t ask for it. But if you love Miss Jean like I do, well that’s my life. I know how Charlie Brown feels thinking this is the year I really kick that ball.

I want all you to know this year I put a lot of time on this gift.When I thought about this gift a couple months ago, I knew it could possibly be the most expensive gift I have ever given her, and it was. I have search the country over trying to find The One. I think I did a good job. I went to Birmingham and even Atlanta on that CRAZY I-75 & I-285 at 5:00 to find the best fit for Miss Jean. I do this for a Universe Changing smile. It really is worth it,because she only gives it if she loves. Yep, that’s the end of the sentence. “If she loves.” The special thing about Miss Jean is “she loves.” She is old school when it comes to love. Her love is pure with pure intentions. I will get upset sometimes with our “children in the ministry.”( That’s any one we ever led to Christ or worked closely with in ministry.) Miss Jean will say something like “give them time John, they’ll see the light.”

So as I wrap this thing up on the Celebration day for Miss Jean. I am blessed enough to have lived most of my life in a totally different Universe than most, with the Best Buddy a man could have. Because I know her and love her I will just say Happy Birthday John.

For you blog readers I have given you the picture and I can tell you that I hit a home run. She wanted a Bug when we were much younger and couldn’t afford it, oh but now. I got the famous Smile.
